Kazandyk (jamaatkhana) is a huge square room with sides of 18.5 m. In the center of the room is a huge pot – a masterpiece of medieval bronze casting art, the works of Abd al-Aziz ibn Ustad Sharaf ad-din Tabrizi. The boiler’s height is 158.3 cm, the largest diameter along the corolla’s edge is 243.4 cm. The weight of the cauldron is about two tons; it could contain 3000 litres of water. The boiler was specially made for Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum by Amir Timur’s order on June 25, 1399. Kazan also gave the name to the central hall of the mausoleum – Kazandyk. Small hujras – cells, living rooms, adjoin in two floors to Kazandyk from the eastern and western sides.
Kazandyk is covered by the largest dome in Central Asia and Kazakhstan, which is lined with blue tiles outside. The upper point of the cupola dome is 39 cm. On the inside, it is covered with stucco – relief stalactites, on which, early 20 c., it was possible to observe the traces of the old ornamental painting. The panel’s background is blue, mosaic made of hexagonal tiles, contoured with a mosaic border. In the lower part of the walls there is a belt of carved sandstone with vegetative ornamentation.
